Narrative Card-Making for Mapping Life Transitions: Visual Storytelling & The Hero’s Journey

This 4-hour experiential workshop introduces a structured narrative therapy framework that integrates Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey with arts-based card-making to support clients navigating major life transitions. Participants will learn how mapping narrative archetypes, such as the Call to Adventure, the Threshold, and the Return, can enhance our work as clinicians when treating grief, identity shifts, and developmental crises. Through a guided mixed-media process, attendees will construct a personal "Transition Map Deck," transforming abstract emotional struggles into tangible, visual milestones for use in treatment with clients. Participants will engage in peer reflection to practice facilitating visual storytelling interventions that foster agency and post-traumatic growth in daily clinical work. Designed for all counselors and therapists, this session provides accessible, non-threatening art protocols suitable for use with individuals and groups in treatment across diverse practice settings.
