Death Doula Services

Supporting the Sacred Transition: End-of-Life Care & Creative Legacy

The journey through the end of life is not merely a clinical event; it is a profound threshold of the human experience. Navigating the final transition requires a container that is as compassionate as it is skilled, one that honors the physical, emotional, and spiritual nuances of departure.

A Holistic Approach to End-of-Life Care

Bridging the gap between medical care and soulful transition, this practice offers a unique synthesis of End-of-Life Doula services, Expressive Art Therapy, and Somatic Clinical Expertise. By weaving these disciplines together, death is approached not as a failure of medicine, but as a sacred life stage deserving of beauty, dignity, and deep presence.

The Intersection of Expertise

The synergy of these three pillars creates a comprehensive framework for those nearing the end of life and their loved ones:

  • Clinical Sophistication & Somatic Grounding

With a background as a board-certified clinician and university professor, I provide a trauma-informed, "bottom-up" neurobiological approach to grief and transition. This expertise ensures that the nervous system is supported during the high-stress environment of terminal illness, focusing on somatic regulation and healing-centered engagement.

  • Creative Legacy & Art Therapy

As a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist (REAT), I facilitate the "Worldmaking" process even in the final chapters. Art-making, whether through collage, poetry, or vintage photography, serves as a vital tool for legacy work, allowing individuals to externalize their stories and find non-verbal ways to communicate when words begin to fail.

  • Presence & Advocacy as a Death Doula

The doula’s role is one of steadfast companionship. From advanced care planning and bedside vigil to the creation of "living funerals" or memorial rituals, I act as an advocate and a quiet anchor, ensuring that the dying person’s autonomy and aesthetic preferences are honored until the very end.

Services & Offerings

The transition process is deeply personal. Support is tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual and their family:

Service Description

Legacy Projects: Creating tangible art, poetry, or visual narratives that capture a lifetime of meaning.

Vigil Planning: Designing the sensory environment of the final days, including music, lighting, and ritual.

Somatic Grief Support: Clinical guidance to help loved ones process the physical and emotional weight of anticipatory grief.

Post-Death Integration: Assisting families in the immediate days following a loss to honor the space and begin the grieving process.

Philosophy

Death work is about the body and the mystery of what lies beyond or behind us. My work is rooted in the belief that the end of life should be as vibrant and intentional as the life that preceded it. By integrating intermodal expressive arts with professional clinical care, we create a space where death is held with reverence, artistry, and unwavering human connection.

"To witness a death is to witness a masterpiece in its final stroke. My role is to ensure the canvas is held with steady hands and a compassionate heart.”
