I myself am, Strange and Unusual
Tattoo's by Heather at Earthship Studios starting in 2019 to be completed in 2020.
If you've never met Heather of Earthship Studios you're missing out. Her ability to see someones vision and make it real is truly a gift. More so than her creative talent, much like Dora, Heather has a shining personality, a strength and warmth that not many find in this world. When I decided to memorialize my favorite movie of all time I knew it had to be Heather.
Beetlejuice and I have had a long standing relationship that has lasted the test of time. I remember being 8 and watching the cartoons and little beetles danced across the screen and Lydia escaped into the magical world of the undead. It was in those moments that I knew I wanted to be Lydia. Not just because she was cool with her red spider poncho and dark eyeliner, Lydia got to escape and as a kid all I wanted was to escape into a world where everything was accepted, where there was no normal and where all the bad things had ended.
It wasn't long after this that I saw Beetlejuice the movie. Lydia came to life with her sudo-suicidal, angsty, all black, teenage artist persona and I was living for it! I saw who I wanted to be and who I was reflected back at me. And for whatever reason, Beetlejuice became my life long crush. His overly honest demeanor and lack of fear and ingenuity sparked something inside of me that had never died.
As a teenager I would revel in watching it over and over, seeing Lydias feelings mirror my own...especially when she was writing a suicide note and goesjumped...plummeted. This movie made me realize I didn't want to be a civil servant in the after life and that maybe having a haunted house wouldn't be so bad if it involved Harry Belafonte themed dance numbers. But most of all it put death into a perspective that made it the next great adventure rather than something to be feared.
Here is to living until we meet the next great adventure...I just hope the waiting room isn't full when I arrive.
