Ladies and Gentlemen, People Of All Ages, Introducing...
Hello World!
Join me on an adventure into the magical and mystical world of tattoos. As a tattoo enthusiast who has been tattooed for the last 15 years I have a deep appreciation and respect for tattoo's as an art form.
My first tattoo was done in a shop owner and operated by cis-gendered, white, heteronormative, men who were hitting on my friend at the time, despite being 10+ years older than her. As an 18 year-old, it was an off putting experience but they were highly recommended and all other shops only had men so I just went for it.
The experience wasn't memorable, I can't remember the artists name of the shop I got it at but I remember how I felt and I remember being confused about where all the women were. The lack of feminine energy was something I deeply noticed and felt.
It was a time where female identifying & gender non-conforming tattoo artists weren't the norm and the tattoo industry was very male dominated which a "macho" feel that was off putting. It would be 10 years from that first tattoo before I met female tattoo artists who have inspired me to spend 2019/ 2020 collecting art from as many female tattoo artists as possible.
In my next few blog I will be documenting all the work I've had done so far and then take you on this wild ride, freak show adventure that is my life with tattoos.
Stay Strange and Unusual,
The Tattooed Goddex
