Goddess of Life and Death
Tattoo by Ash at Show-Off Ink Artistry in New Haven, CT, August 2020 (Phase 2 of COVID-19)
This tattoo is just so good! As it's currently healing I'm still reeling with this overwhelming joy. Persephone and her story is my idea of a good bedtime story. A woman with intense power, kept down by her family of origin, who in finding herself, finds love and power in her internal darkness and then learns the power of aiding in the balance of life and death. On a more personal note I was 12 when my mother bought me a copy of Edith Hamilton's Greek Mythology and I instantly grew a connection to Persephone, I even told my mom I would get a tattoo of her some day and 21 years later I did.
Every tattoo is special and every artist is special to me, I genuinely mean that. I feel like it's a gift to be able to share a story like this with an artist and have it come to life. This is more than I imagined and I hope Persephone is watching from the Underworld, as we move into Fall, and I hope she feels honored.
