And You See, You're A Gypsy...

Tattoo By Jess at Black Hatchet Tattoos, Wallingford, CT (Phase 3 COVID)

Jess has done the most amazing job of making my fingers the most magical. She also does well to manage the fact that I seem to enjoy giving her small but intricate line work tattoos that challenge even the steadiest of hands and she rocks it, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

As All Hallow's Eve approaches the liminal space between the living and dead, the moon and the sun, the dark and the light become blended. It opens up a universal energy shift that moves us from Mabon to Samhain into Yule. This shift into the darker months feels extra relevant during the most horrific end to these last 4 years.

As we move into the election I feel the darkness growing. As handmaidens and cults try to infiltrate more of our time, energy, spaces, safety, I find myself falling deeper into the energy and movement of the universe. I find that nature has responded to violently to the atrocities happening upon the Earth. I can feel its anger, my anger, our anger in the movement of the wind and torrential rain. I can feel its pain, I can feel my pain, I can feel our pain and our fear and our sorrow and I can still feel the light, the fire burning deep inside me, inside us, inside us all.

It felt like kismet that during all of this, Jess would help me finish my witchy fingers. The original symbols honored the seasons, the elements, the gods and goddesses and the parts of my faith that I hold dear. She made them more powerful and beautiful. And in that way my hands and the torrent emotions swirling around us all remind me of the first time I heard the song "Gypsy" and how much as a teen it spoke to me and my deep connection to the earth,

“And it all comes down to you. Well, you know that it does, well. Lightning strikes maybe once, maybe twice. Oh and it lights up the night, And you see you're a gypsy. You see you're a gypsy”

It has served as a constant reminder of my own strength and my own inner magic. Most of all I did something I had always wanted but been too afraid to do. I had Jess tattoo part of my palm. Just. small circle on the lower outside heel of my hand. A circle in the moon quadrant of the hand is supposed to aid in connecting and strengthening the abundance of intuition.
