Fairy Queen Medb

Tattoo by Court Mello, Owner of Tooth & Nail Tattoo in Naugatuck Connecticut January 2021

Let’s start with the fact that Court came highly recommended and many folxs felt she would be the perfect female identifying artist to add to this project. Court was incredibly accommodating throughout the entire process which included a global pandemic and my own disorganized brain (totally fried from being a therapist during this last year).

Court’s shop was beautiful! Full of really cool art, stuffed animals, fun furniture and most of all her Kind Snake, Queen. She kindly let me hold her snake and that was the softest, kindest, most adorable snake to hold, EVER. I once had a deathly fear of snakes, like full blow crying and panic, sufficed to say, that will will not happen again after this lovely creatures cuddles.

Court created a beautiful dark and enchanting death fairy. My thought behind this was in part from the Celtic Folklore of the Fairy Queen Medb. She has many stories written about here but all the following are consistent: She was considered beautiful beyond measure, cunning and manipulative, her names means “she who intoxicates” and this would lead to many men’s success and their downfall, but one thing is clear, she held the power, she was in charge and she enacted as she felt fit. I can think of no greater image to accompany the other images on my “underworld leg” than this fairy.
