If You Listen Closely You Can Hear The Ocean…

Tattoo by Becky at Show-Off Ink Artistry March 2021

Giving an artist free range is always exciting and nerve racking. Something about Becky and her demeanor lends itself to trusting her without question. She has designed this beautiful Conch Shell for me. Now here’s the deal, all Becky knew was that I wanted to keep filling in my ocean leg…that’s it.

Conch shells and I actually have a very long meaningful history. Growing up our family went to the beach every summer. We’d spend 2 week in Cape Cod. I took my first steps there (as I am reminded in most family stories), learned how to fish and row, learned what life without TV or any real technology was, developed a love for Peppermint Stick Ice Cream and Rainbow Jimmies, fell in love with Whales and the sound of the ocean and learned that sand between my toes is the most freeing feeling on the planet.

Growing up my brother and I would look for the elusive Conch Shells. We had so many of them from our grandparents adventures and always searched for our own. I still have our collection of shells, my grandmothers shells in little glass jars with labels (made by her trusty label maker) of where they all came from, bags of shells from the beaches of Cape Cod, small shells from the beaches of Scotland (yes very cold and very beautiful) and I always look for conch shells wherever I go.

It felt so fitting and beautiful that Becky would randomly choose this very shell to fill in my leg. Sometimes the universe gives us what we need without us knowing.
