The Gods Are Queer
Tattoo by Heather of Earthship Studios, September 2021, in Waterbury, CT
It’s always exciting to be back at Earthship with two of the best humans on the planet. It felt even more exciting to see Heather and have her create an adorable little fox tattoo and fill on the background of my lower arms (they feel complete now!).
This fox feels extra special.
For the entirety of this pandemic we inherited a neighborhood fox. The first time I saw him he was hunting a bird and just leaped into the air catching it. He looked at me and walked away birth in mouth. From them on, almost every walk I go on be it early morning or late at night he appears. Typically in the middle of the road just staring, sometimes sitting there or rolling in a neighbors lawn or on the lesser often occasion running across the street.
I felt like we created a spiritual bond. His presence and the quiet contemplative experiences he provided felt meaningful and grounding. It was equally not lost on me that the God represented by a fox is none other than Loki. And not the Avengers, mythology rip off, but the real true Norse God. Often represented by a fox and considered one of the first white, Queer Gods, the parent of all us non-binary babes (or TheyBe’s lol). My time in this pandemic has been finally transitioning so it is not lost on me that the universe, the gods, maybe even Loki themselves, seem to have sent a little message that I’m on the right path.
