Goodnight Moon

Tattoo by Nikki of Foxden Tattoos in Wallingford, CT April & May 2021

Done in 2 sittings: Last tattoo before surgery and first tattoo post surgery!

I’m back with Nikki again!! She’s just the kindest and most calming human to be around. Plus we’re birthday twins and Pisces which means we both love all the animals, cry a lot, love art and are the most magical of humans. It’s true.

I’ve always wanted a little ear tattoo. First I think they look so delicate and adorable. Second is I actually have a weird thing about ears. As a kid I would get earaches constantly. There would be nights where I could cry in pain unable to sleep and struggling to hear. And in the summer I practically lives in lakes, oceans and pools. If there was water I would just submerge myself in another world. But as always this would turn into swimmers ear. Every summer I would have wicks in my ears, antibiotics, drops etc before the season was over.

Every late night earache was met with the same thing, cotton balls soaked in lightly warmed, garlic infused, olive oil, an old Italian home remedy. After I would whine that I didn’t want to my mother would help me get the cotton in my ears, tuck me in and lay next to me, and would read my all time favorite children’s book, Goodnight Moon. I would drift to sleep as my mother plucked the cotton balls from my ears and I would be able to sleep through the night.

Years later I would meet someone who I would fall in love with partially because they loved Goodnight Moon as much as I did. I would fall in love with their softness, the light in their eyes every time we’d find another Goodnight Moon book, with every laugh when they’d find us another parody of of Goodnight Moon, making a collection that we could giggle over. I knew I loved my now life partner, when he shared his love of Goodnight Moon with me. So thank you Nikki for capturing something so special in something so small and delicate. And thank you Baby Dino, Goodnight Moon my love.
