The Snake That Lures To Forbidden Fruit

Tattoo by Emile Dube of Saint and Sinner Tattoos, Waterbury, CT

Growing up I was so afraid of snakes. I grew up in a part of NY with Copperheads and met a few in our yard over the years. We would even have educational speakers come to school to tell us how to survive snake bites. It would be until later in life that I not only embraced snakes, but learned to love them, respect them, and see them as the ancient powerful beings they are.

Snakes are a massive part of my favorite myths, Medusa, Persephone, Eve, Lilith, all have a snake snuck in there and all involve some kind of downfall, because…you know…women. Snakes, like women, are often misinterpreted, fears, face violence for existing. Snakes are the power of the universe and often aren’t seen as such.

It was so exciting to see Emile post these beautiful floral snakes. It felt like kismet to see something that represented my new found relationship with snakes come alive like this.
